History of the
Ecumenical Counseling Institute, Inc.
The Ecumenical
Counseling Institute, Inc., formerly the Ecumenical Church of Christ,
Inc., was Incorporated August 2, 1977 in the District of Columbia. The
purpose at that time was to conduction evangelistic training teaching
and counseling men and women for the mission field. As the expense of
operating a church grew beyond our expectation, a compelling decision
was made to change the name of the corporation to the Ecumenical
counseling Institute in August 6, 1990. Since then we have been
operating with a volunteer staff of providing free counseling services
to the less fortunate in our communities. Currently in Good Standing,
according to the records of the Corporation Division of the District of
Columbia as of 2/9/2009.
The institute was founded by Dr. Lloyd G. Fennell who is a Licensed
Professional Counselor. Dr. Fennell has spent more than 30 years in
variety of counseling field with many certifications. Just to name a
few, he was one of the early pioneers in the District of Columbia as a
Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. He is a Certified Pastoral
Counselor in the field of Marriage Relationships, Best Parent Practices,
a designated Certified Diploma in Psychotherapy, Member of the
American Counseling Association, Member of the National Association of
Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselor, member of the American Mental
Health Counselor Association.
Dr. Fennell is a licensed, ordained Minister of the Gospel and
received numerous training from several colleges and universities.
LaSalle University, Southeastern University, the District of Columbia
University, the Institution Americana Biblicarum, Grace Bible Institute.
Dr. Fennell is the former dean of the Washington Saturday Community
College. He is a writer, public speaker, Advance Silver Toastmaster,
researcher, educator, lecturer, and activist for the poor and the under
represented. With several years of services in local institutions,
Associated Catholic Charities, the United Planning Organization, the DC
Department of Corrections and the American Department of Corrections.
With duties including Alcohol and Drug Counseling, Transition
Counselor, Lead Counselor and Case Manager.
The Institute has built its reputation over the years on the successes
of past programs and services by providing an array of dynamic
faith-centered educational choices for Chemical Dependency Counselors,
DWI/DUI Clients, 3-Hours Alcohol and Drug Education. Safe Driving
Education, Pre-post Marriage Counseling, Best Parenting Practice,
Court Services Providers, Mentoring Services, Small Business Coaching,
and Training Counselors toward Certification.
Our mission is to
function as a ‘Human Services Provider’ supporting individuals and
families with relationships problems by reversing the spiral of abuse
and addiction; preventing child abuse and neglect, preventing domestic
violence, improving communication and the quality of life. To identify
publications, programs, educational products, resources and practical
information through the means of research, workshops, lectures,
seminars, that are contextual and user friendly in change old abnormal
behavior and to turn them into healthy and productive habits.
Our program goals are design to improve communication, among
individuals, support families. Be encourage to community leaders,
counselors, teachers and human service caregivers to help them to
understand their adjustment to the social cultural changes that are
taking place in our schools, places of worship, the working community,
business and our governmental service agencies. |
